Un gran número de venezolanos ya están usando Bitcoin y Zcash para ahorrar dinero y comprar bienes y servicios. Esta guía es para ellos.

Nuestra motivación

Desde 2013 hasta ahora, el Bolívar ha perdido 99,95% de su poder adquisitivo en relación al dólar. Solamente en el primer semestre de 2017, el índice de inflación acumula 176%, lo que significa que un ciudadano venezolano cuyos ingresos no hayan sido corregidos según la inflación sufrió un 64% de caída en su poder adquisitivo contando desde enero. Y hay indicios de que la inflación se aceleró fuertemente en este segundo semestre.

El que fuera alguna vez el país más rico de América Latina, ve ahora al 81,8% de su población viviendo en la pobreza.

¿Qué se puede hacer?

Una inflación transparente y predecible

A diferencia del Bolívar venezolano, Zcash y Bitcoin no pueden ser devaluados por decisión del gobierno. Zcash es dinero operado por la gente.

No existe un banco central que pueda decidir cuánto Zcash debe ser creado. La tasa de distribución está fijada en el protocolo de Zcash, y nadie tiene el poder de modificarlo unilateralmente.

Centrado en la privacidad

Zcash ofrece privacidad y una transparencia selectiva en las transacciones. Las transacciones completamente blindadas actúan de la misma manera que el dinero físico: solo las personas involucradas en un intercambio, y aquellas con los que eventualmente decidan compartir la información, conocerán los detalles de la transacción.

Para situaciones menos sensibles, existen también las transacciones transparentes, que son además compatibles con las billeteras virtuales móviles.

¿Cómo puede ayudarme a mí y a mi gente?

Existen varios aspectos en los que los venezolanos pueden beneficiarse al usar Zcash.

Ahorros - protegerse contra la inflación

Tal vez usted esté guardando bolívares en su banco y viendo que sirven para comprar menos cosas cada día. O tal vez corre al supermercado y gasta todo su salario el mismo día en que lo cobró, porque sabe que mañana las cosas estarán más caras.

Zcash y Bitcoin están demostrando ser prometedores depósitos de valor alternativos. Pueden ser vendidos por bolívares o dólares, e intercambiados por bienes y servicios.

Guía para la creación de una billetera Zcash:

2. No olvide hacer una copia de seguridad de sus claves, ya que esta es la única manera de recuperar sus fondos si pierde su dispositivo. La forma de hacer esto variará dependiendo de la billetera que haya elegido.

3. Luego necesitará comprar, minar, o ganar Zcash a cambio de sus servicios o mercancías (ver la sección siguiente). Algunas personas ya están haciendo esto para escapar de las turbulencias económicas y políticas, y muchos otros, como medio de supervivencia.

A substantial number of Venezuelans are already using Bitcoin and Zcash to save money and to buy goods and services. This guide is for them.

Our motivation

Since 2013, the Bolivar lost 99,95% of its purchasing power, in dollar terms. In 2017's first semester alone, the inflation index accumulates 176%, which means the Venezuelan citizen who didn't get their income corrected for inflation saw a 64% plummet in purchasing power from January. And there are hints that inflation strongly accelerated in this second semester.

The once richest country in Latin America, now sees 81.8% of its population living in poverty.

What can be done?

Transparent, predictable inflation

Unlike the Venezuelan Bolivar, Zcash and Bitcoin cannot be devalued by the act of the government. Zcash is money operated by the people.

There's no central bank who can decide how much Zcash to create. The rate of distribution is fixed in the Zcash protocol, and no one has the power to single-handedly modify that.

Privacy-centric

Zcash offers privacy and selective transparency of transactions. Fully shielded transactions act like physical cash: only the people involved in an exchange, and those they eventually choose to share the info with, know the transaction details.

Transparent transactions are also available for less sensitive situations and are supported by mobile wallets.

How can it help me and my people?

There are a variety of ways Venezuelans can benefit and get relief from using Zcash.

Savings - protect yourself from inflation

Maybe you are holding Bolivars in your bank and seeing it buy less as the days go by. Or maybe you run to the supermarket and spend your whole salary the very day you get it, because you know tomorrow things will be more expensive.

Zcash and Bitcoin are proving to be promising alternative stores of value. They can be sold for Bolivars or Dollars, and exchanged for goods and services.

Guide to setting up a Zcash wallet:

1. First, you will need to choose a wallet in which to store your Zcash. A wallet is a piece of free software that typically runs at your phone or computer or can be web based. You can learn about different options here: http://www.comunidadezcash.com.br/es/monederos-zcash/.

2. Don't forget to backup your keys, as this is the only way to recover your funds if your device is lost. Doing this will vary depending on the wallet you chose.

3. Then you need to buy, mine, or earn Zcash in exchange for your services or goods (see next section). Some people are already doing this to escape the economic and political turmoil, and, to many, a means of survival.

4. When the time comes to use your Zcash savings, you can sell or spend them.

Getting paid for goods and services, locally and from abroad

Protecting your hard-earned saving is good but being paid with Zcash and finding others who accept your Zcash as payment can help promote your community to be less dependent on the Bolivar.

Whenever you buy goods or services from someone, ask them if they take Zcash.

Whenever you sell goods or services to someone, ask them to pay you in Zcash.

Most people won't have ever heard of it yet, but this will create very fruitful opportunities to spread the word to other citizens, raise awareness about the consequences of hyperinflation, and show there is a way out of the vicious cycle.
